Dungeons & Dragons: An Outside Look

Individuals who have never played Dungeons and Dragons before were interviewed with basic questions about the game. These are their responses.

Several students from the University of California, San Diego, were interviewed on a few basic questions of Dungeons & Dragons. Questioning began with the topic of, "What is D&D?", to obtain a basic starting point of how much participants of the interview knew about the game. The next questions took a more personal standpoint, asking individuals both what they thought of the game and what they believed to be a possible benefit of participation.

The results of these brief interviews revealed several things. Firstly, most people's knowledge of the game is based solely on a combination of word of mouth and media coverage, rather than firsthand research. In terms of knowledge concerning the game itself, the participants' answers revealed that D&D's creative thinking and social aspects seem to stand out the most, an indication of how the game's reputation has evolved since its conception decades ago.
